| Hey i have moved. check me out at coffee-reflections.blogspot.com from now on=] | | |
| Even as i type the title of this entry, i still do not exactly know the true answer. I have always wanted to be a teacher since young; I am someone who is very grateful to my teachers who have invested so much of their time n efforts in my life, believing in me and guiding me. Through these great teachers in my life, they have inspired me to be 1 too... I set off on my journey to teach since sep 10 of this year and man, it was a whirlwind experience! Teaching was never the way i had actually visualised in my mind....dealing with 40 students in a class, 14 classes in all was not a feat for the faint-hearted. I almost wanted to throw in the towel on the 1st day of work! But now, looking back in retrospective, I am really glad that i had that experience. Truthfully, I am more than ever respectful toward teachers now; teaching is a noble calling and i mean it in every sense of the word.... To me, what sets a great teacher apart from an ordinary teacher is his or her dedication to this calling... Honestly, who in his or her sane mind wants to be a teacher??? The pay is not exactly attractive, the students are not exactly a nice group of youths to work with, the workload is definitely not light, so what do 1 person gain through this career??? I guess as someone says, success is never a DESTINATION but a JOURNEY... And the answer to my question will keep changing; who knows,i may not be a teacher forever or i maybe a teacher forever, but 1 thing for sure is that in the next 4 years, I have chosen to take up this challenge, to mould the future generation and at the same time, discovering more of myself.... | | |
| Liverpool was atrocious tonight!!! We literally lacked imagination, continuity, discipline and calmness in the midfield. Passes were not well-stringed, we were totally outclassed by Arsenal's teamwork, flow and unity. Truefully, Arsenal was way the better team tonight. After watching the match, i've come to realise a few things: [1] The difference between a good team and a world-class team is whether the team is able to give 100% focus and commitment for ALL 90 minutes of the match. This reminds me that in life, in whatever that i do, i must give a 100% focus, no time to let down my guard, no time to be casual. In fact, a casual and indifferent attitude is always the obstacle to success... [2] Sometimes what you think is the right thing to do may not be exactly be beneficial to the whole team as a whole! Arsenal's fortunes changed for the better when Xabi Alonso was injured and had to be subed out. Captain Gerrard was shifted back to the center but Alas! That turned out to be liverpool's flaw throughout the rest of them match. Gerrard's strengths, which are his surging runs and striking instincts, turned out to be his weakness!!! Many -a-time, Liverpool's gap in midfield was exposed by Arsenal as Gerrard constantly strayed away from his defensive position. all in all, i have to admit, Liverpool is definitely not a world-class team yet...... We still lacked that extra X factor which i think Arsenal has and even Man U; that tremendous self-belief... Arsenal is primarily a team of youths but the way they ran, the way they passed, the way they played, i can't help but admire their brand of football.... My dear liverpool and captain Gerrard and vice-captain Carragher, please wake up=[ | | |
| Today i was in the conference room discussing the students' promotions with the teachers, HODs and the principal. 1 of my colleague remarked that it was quite scary that the students' future for the next year are determined by a panel of teachers.... But is that really true? Didn't the students decide for themselves when they didn't study for the exams? But wait a minute, was it the student's fault that he did not study? Maybe it was due to the family background he/she was in. Maybe the environment in his house made in unconducive for him/her to study... Besides discussin about the borderline cases, we also discussed about the good students' promotions to higher streams. The principal was rather cautious about the fact that the normal stream students may not be able to excel in O levels, thus he was unwilling to promote them. Hmmm, so now even if students did well, they are also not rewarded because of the concerns of other teachers due to their opinions based on them??? Personally, after teaching for about a 1 and a half months, i am rather deluded by the MOE system. We are still afraid of failing, and we are still very results based. Though creativity is the 'in' word now for education, but it seems that maths and sciences are still preferred over humanities and arts. Alot of the students themselves are unmotivated and to a certain extent, rebellious... The culture in this school is so different from my secondary school!!!! From the day we are initiated into this world, we are introduced to this never ending rat race. We strive to be the best in everything that we to do, oops sorry, i correct myself; we strive to be better than everyone else in everything that we do.. We strive to look better, to be richer, to be smarter, to be stronger, to be taller, to be more hardworking, to work more OT...... People are resistant to change. If we want to be a change-maker, we must have the right mindset, the stamina, the tenacity, the never-say-die spirit. | | |
| When are people going to realise that love, relationships are not just all FUN, chemistry and no commitment???!!! When are people going to realise that the most important thing in their lives is the people that around them and not their endless jobs???? When are people going to realise that that this world does not belong to them but that they have a responsibility to take care of it????? When are people going to realise that they are imperfect creatures and that many of the problems in our lives are SELF-INFLICTED??? When are people going to realise that SMOKING, no matter how 'good' it is, harms and never benefits??? When are people going to realise that sometimes they just have to let go of things, relationships that are hurting them??? When are people going to realise that it is better to FORGIVE than to keep hating???? When? When? | | |
